Job Summary:
We are looking for an enthusiastic and patient Children’s Cycle Trainer to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a passion for cycling and a talent for teaching children of various ages and skill levels how to ride in different environments safely and confidently. You will be responsible for planning and delivering engaging and educational cycling lessons including Learn to Ride Level 1, Introduction to Skills Level 2 and Advanced Skills Level 3.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan and Deliver Sessions: Develop and implement cycling lessons tailored to children’s ages and skill levels, focusing on new starts, beginner and advanced techniques.
- Organisation and Administration: Take bookings, maintain our waiting list, book venues and take deposits and final payments for the block sessions.
- Safety Instruction: Teach children essential road safety rules, including signalling, understanding traffic signs, and navigating various cycling environments. (Advanced)
- Skill Development: Help children improve their cycling skills, such as balance, control, steering, and pedalling techniques.
- Organise Cycling Activities: Plan fun and engaging cycling activities and games to encourage participation and skill enhancement.
- Assess Progress: Evaluate each child’s progress and provide constructive feedback to help them improve their cycling abilities.
- Maintain Equipment: Ensure all bicycles and safety gear are in good condition, properly fitted, and ready for use during training sessions.
- Engage with Parents: Communicate with parents regarding their child’s progress and offer advice on how they can support their child’s cycling development at home.
- Promote Safety and Fun: Foster a safe, positive, and encouraging learning environment where children feel motivated and enjoy cycling.
- Adapt to Individual Needs: Adjust teaching methods to accommodate the varying abilities and confidence levels of children. Apply one to one sessions where required and plan and run Additional Support Needs (ASN) sessions where appropriate.
Qualifications:
- Experience: Desirable – Previous experience in teaching or coaching children, preferably in sports or physical education. Experience in cycling instruction is a benefit.
- Cycling Proficiency: Strong cycling skills and knowledge of road safety rules and regulations.
- Certification: Relevant cycling instructor certification or equivalent is preferred (e.g., Bikeability, Cycling Instructor Training). Training can be provided if not already held.
- Communication Skills: Excellent verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage and motivate children.
- Patience and Enthusiasm: A patient, energetic, and positive attitude, with a passion for working with children.
- First Aid Certification: Current first aid certification is desirable, but training can be provided
- Physical Fitness: Ability to demonstrate cycling techniques and participate actively in training sessions.
